Oahe Cup
The 2010 Oahe Cup will take place Saturday, September 11th at 1pm.
The Oahe Cup is annual event put on by the Bismarck Horse Club and takes place at the Walt Neuens Memorial Horse Park.
The event is a judged trail ride that takes place out in the trees that surround the Horse Park. There are 10 obstacles set up throughout the scenic wooded area behind the facility. Riders go out in time increments in pairs of two and follow a trail/path set-out by the organizing committee. Along the way, competitiors will encounter obstacles that they will have to maneuver with their horses as correctly and safely as possible.
Riders are divided into two age divisions:
Youth (17 & under)
Adult (18 & over)
The entry fee for the event is $10 and the winners in each age division will receive an award.
It used to be the tradition that the winners in each of the age groups were responsible for organizing and putting on the competition the following year. This is no longer the case. Starting in 2006, the board took over being the organizing body for the event and ask that the previous year's winners help by coming up with one obstacle and one judge.
Judges:
Anyone can be a judge, no horse show or even horse experience is necessary.
Riders are scored on a points basis, with 10 being the most points possible and 0 indicating the rider did not complete the obstacle.
Poker "Run"
In addition to the competitive trail ride, riders have the option to play poker. 5 of the stations give poker playing participants a card. The idea is to have the best 5-card poker hand at the end of the event. The entry fee for this is $1 per hand and the winner takes all.
